UMD Student Government Association

The student-led governing body at the University of Maryland, College Park. The organization represents over 30,000 students' needs to improve the college experience.

Brief

As Director of Communications for my Student Government Association, I worked to address student concerns through digital engagement. To interact with our constituents, I wrote press releases, a weekly e-newsletter, and managed a team to conduct outreach through virtual events and social media. Additionally, I served as the organization’s press contact and successfully pitched stories that appeared in national outlets, including The Washington Post and The New York Times.

During my experience with the SGA, my campaigns amassed 370,000 impressions on social media and engaged more than 150 student groups, local businesses and community stakeholders. My media relations efforts allowed the SGA to receive national and local attention through print and broadcast outreach, including in The Washington Post and The New York Times.

Forward Maryland

A Student Government Association campaign to represent over 30,000 students at the University of Maryland, College Park.

February–March 2020

Brief

I was the senior adviser and communications director for Forward Maryland where I directed message and design strategy for our team of over 200 students. In one month, I created social media accounts, graphics, brand identity and a website for the campaign.

Our campaign won the election through our fun and relatable graphics and tone. Students connected with Forward Maryland's use of humor, succinct information and virtual events that allowed personal access to the candidates.

Brief

I created brand identity guides for Forward Maryland, UMD Gratitude Project and the ECE Peer Mentor Program at the University of Maryland. Each project required translating the goals, tone and audience of the organizations into a visual design package.

I provided each client with sample logos, a color palette, font choices and social media templates to allow for a cohesive branding look. I also taught each client how to use the templates to provide a sustainable way to keep their organization's visual identity consistent.

One Hour of Service

A non-profit to encourage community service during the coronavirus pandemic.

Brief

I created the messaging, brand identity and communication outreach plan to raise awareness and establish One Hour of Service. Designing the voice and look of the organization from its inception allowed me to enhance my written and graphic skills around a singular issue area. I also successfully developed community partnerships with other non-profits in the D.C. area.

While One Hour of Service is no longer active, the organization received positive feedback from community partners and successfully launched a website and outreach campaign earlier in the course of the coronavirus pandemic.

NextChapter Consulting

A consulting group working with companies, nonprofit organizations, and associations to develop strong education partnerships.

Brief

I designed a website for NextChapter Consulting. After providing two options for the website, one modern and one traditional, I worked with the client to create a bright and simple design. I also helped the client find images that conveyed the spirit of her business.
